Top 5 Fruits For Good Skin

Apr 01, 2019

Fruits are an excellent source of nutrients to keep us healthy, but did you know that they have great benefits for your skin as well? Whether you prefer to consume them as snacks, as a refreshing drink or concoct facial masks and scrubs from their pulp and meat, fruits help make our skin smooth and supple. Here are some of the most effective fruits for your skin you can get today:

Mangoes

Singapore is lucky to be a tropical country with easy access to mangoes. Not only are these fleshy fruits very yummy – they are also great for your skin. Mangoes are filled with vitamins A, C, E and K, which encourage cell and collagen production, reduce UV damage, and help repair wounds and bruises. Spent the night partying? Have a mango shake the next morning. The anti-inflammatory properties of the fruit can help reduce face puffing.

Also, mangoes make great face masks: just mix mashed mangoes with yoghurt and honey and apply liberally on your face for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse and then pat dry to marvel at your renewed skin.

Oranges

When it comes to vitamin C, oranges are your best bet. With rich vitamin C content, oranges stimulate collagen production to keep your skin supple and reduce wrinkles. It can also reduce sagging and help maintain your skin’s firmness as you age.

You can eat an orange by itself or include it in your salads. Orange juice is also a great way to get your daily vitamin C. For a quick way to boost your skin’s brightness especially on a hot day, spritz some homemade orange mist on your face. You can create your very own orange mist by soaking orange peels in boiling water and keeping it in the fridge overnight. Pour the mixture in a handy spray bottle to keep in your purse.

Papayas

If you have an acne breakout, papaya can help you control it! This delicious fruit is chock full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that can help clear your skin of acne and pigmentation. It’s also known to moisturise skin from the inside, as well as cure warts, skin ulcers and eczema.

Papaya is underrated as an after-meal snack, but it’s also wonderful as a juice that you can combine with other fruits. For a refreshing facial scrub, mash some papayas and apply them on your face after cleansing. If you have dry and flaky skin, mix it with some almond oil before applying.

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are known in mythology as the fruits that the Greek goddess Persephone ate in the underworld, but these succulent morsels are not just devilishly tempting. Pomegranate seeds are full of anti-ageing properties, thanks to its high-level of ellagic acid which provides sun protection for your skin. Thanks to this antioxidant, pomegranates can prevent skin cancer, hyperpigmentation and age spots.

Pomegranates can be included with your cereal or morning porridge to add another dimension to your breakfast. You can also use the pigmented juice from the seeds as a cheek tint, for a quick blush that is healthy for your skin.

Watermelons

Biting into the juicy red meat of a watermelon feels refreshing during a hot day, but beyond the yummy snack, watermelons are also great at keeping your skin fresh. Because it is made of 92% water, it helps you to hydrate and replenish your body’s fluids. Watermelons are also natural toners, filled with lycopene, antioxidants and vitamins A and C to slow down signs of ageing. Watermelons can also help regulate oily skin by shrinking the pores and controlling oil secretion from sebaceous glands.

Want to moisturise with an all-natural facial mask for dry skin? Mix watermelon juice with a bit of lemon juice and honey and leave them on your face for 10 minutes. Rinse well and pat dry for a brighter face.
